Mosquito Traps
Mosquito traps are shown to be effective in preventing the overpopulation of mosquitoes in an area. While there are many types of repellents and traps on the market, it is often more convenient and economical to make one than to buy one. To build mosquito traps, it takes only a few things that are around the house, and they work just as well as those bought in a store.
Using a coffee can, attach a length of wick to the bottom of the can. Using a collection of scrap wax, melt it down and add an ounce of citronella oil for each pound of wax, and fill the can to stabilize the wick. Once cooled, reheat left over wax and fill the can again to level off the candle. Use a cover to protect the candle from water and dirt.
Another simple version of the mosquito traps is the mosquito trap with box fan. This type of mosquito trap may include a base, carbon dioxide container for producing carbon dioxide neat the base, a mosquito collection box and a fan motor for introducing air into a collection box. The motor itself creates a wind pressure that is strong enough to kill the mosquitoes trapped in the collection box.
A Lentek mosquito trap is produced by a leader in the mosquito control industry, using state of the art products to control mosquitoes both outdoors and indoors. They carry systems from small and portable units to large systems to repel insects in wider areas.
Among the many types of mosquito traps, the mosquito and propane trap is one of the best choices with many styles available. To start with, mosquitoes find hosts by several different biological signatures, such as moisture from breath, body heat, and body odor. The Galaxie PowerVac simulates these attractions and tricks the insects into believing the trap is a human. Once close enough, they insects are pulled into the machine by a vacuum where they are dehydrated and die.
Another system, called the SkeeterVac and the Mosquito Magnet, work for a continuous 24 hours putting out carbon dioxide, heat and moisture to attract the insects and collect them in a net. By running the system continuously, the yard will become less attractive to mosquitoes and leave a pleasant place for gatherings during the summer months.
