Mosquito Repellents

Mosquito repellents are what make mosquitoes stay away from us, humans and what we rely on for comfort when outside during the warm weather and mosquito season. With most mosquitoes around in the early morning and early evening they are the most obvious times to focus on mosquito control, however there are mosquitoes that are seen all through the day, and are most noticeable during exercise and if near an open water source.

Repellents it is important to note, do not kill mosquitoes instead make us intractable to the biting insects and prevent bites. A side note however is that not all repellents will protect all users the same, the result will often be determined by the type of mosquito as well as the activity, area and attractiveness of the person to the bugs.

Mosquito repellents come in many varieties, either as a synthetic chemical, such as DEET, or from a plant such as Citronella. Each of these is available in different forms as in spray’s, wipes, sticks, foams and lotions.

A natural mosquito repellent is a more popular choice today, and are known to repel mosquitoes as well as the more popular chemical brands, but often will require additional applications. These natural repellents will be made from plant oils, including citronella, cinnamon, lemon grass, lavender and many more.

Mosquito milk repellent is known to be quite effective and made of plant oils from a geranium with a small amount of DEET and can offer protection for up to eight hours.

Possibly in a similar class of mosquito repellent the homemade mosquito repellent. Two of the more popular types of do it yourself mosquito repellent are made from eucalyptus and lemon. Eucalyptus oil, available at almost any drug store or craft store can be added to water to make a spray repellent. In addition, lemon balm is also available in the same forms and can be used in a spray bottle at a more concentrated solution.

While natural and homemade solutions are popular and prepare mosquito repellents are handy there are other options. A solar mosquito repeller is a chemical free way of repelling mosquitoes. The solar repeller sends out an ultra-high frequency that is similar to that of the male and keeps the female biting mosquitoes away.
