Mosquito control products, also known as repellents come in many styles and types, and are used to keep a mosquito from biting, this can be exceptionally important for those who work or play in areas that may be infested with mosquitoes. When choosing to use a repellent, it is important to know what is available and how to use them. Mosquito control has become big business and products are available in aerosols, creams, solids and liquids, from treated clothing to candles. Chemicals such as DEET have been used as a top repellent choice for more than 40 years.
Another top choice in mosquito control is using a chemical called Permethrin and is recommended for use on clothing, shoes, bed nets and other gear that may be used outside. This chemical when used correctly will repel ticks, mosquitoes and other insects, and will maintain its effectiveness even after washing. While this type of mosquito control chemical is useful, it will not work when applied to the skin.
When using a repellent on clothing or skin, protection will normally last up to six hours from the application.
Citronella candles or coils are also a popular type of mosquito control and are most often used for repelling mosquitoes in immediate areas. These candles made of Oil of Citronella produces scent through smoke that mosquitoes do not like, thus keeping them away from the area. While useful in small areas, these candles may not be helpful for larger areas that needed protection from these insects.
While there are many types of mosquito’s repellents available, another option is natural mosquito control. One of the more popular is similar to the citronella candle or coil. Spraying an area with a combination of lemon ammonia, lemon juice and lemon dish soap will keep the mosquitoes at bay as they do not like the scent of lemon.
